The definitive release of these sessions can be found on Follow That Dream's limited edition The Pot Luck Sessions 5xCD set, where everything has been mixed and remastered from scratch, and all masters and outtakes are presented in the best possible sound.
An edited (2:19) version of 'Kiss Me Quick',
with omitted parts of verses (first verse - "Cause
tomorrows can be so uncertain, Love can fly and
leave just hurting, Kiss me quick because I love
you so. Kiss me quick and make my heart go crazy,
Sigh that sigh and whisper oh so low"), was
released in 1987 on the BMG Ariola release The
Definitive Love Album.
'Kiss Me Quick' was released without backing
vocals on the 1964 Spanish EP Viva Las Vegas (3-20820). This was done by eliminating one of
the stereo channels.
'Kiss Me Quick' was also released without backing
vocals on the 1980 1st pressing of the German
RCA release Elvis Forever Volume 2 (with matrix number
CL 42853). As above, this was done by eliminating one of
the stereo channels. When RCA discovered the mistake
they made a new LP master with new matrix number
CPL 42853.
'I'm Yours' on CD2 of '24 Carat Gold' is
actually the first false start of Take 2 followed by the
first false start of Take 3, then complete take of Take
2.
The stereo single master of 'I'm Yours' is incorrectly listed on the FTD release of Tickle
Me and the Franklin Mint set, where it's actually
just the complete Take 6 without the splice with
work part - Take 2. The true stereo single master of 'I'm Yours' is on the U.S.A. edition of the HITStory compilation
where curiously it has the same ISRC as the Franklin
Mint set, and can also be found on FTD's classic album of Elvis' Gold Records Volume 4.
The following is a breakdown of how '(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame' was edited together on The EP Collection Volume 2 and Rare Elvis Volume 2 (Sample) and was listed as being takes 1 to 6:-
0:00 - 0:35 = Count-in, Take 1 false start, Take 1 long false start (up to first "and Marie's the name…")(0:00-0:36 of Take 1)
0:35 - 0:38 = Take 1 LFS (this line is spliced in from second "of his latest flame…")(0:52-0:55 of Take 1)
0:38 - 0:50 = Take 1 LFS (from "…He talked and talked" to "the prettiest green eyes anywhere…")(0:40-0:50 of Take 1)
The next section is cut from Take 1 long false start on The EP Collection Volume 2 and Rare Elvis Volume 3 "…and Marie's the name of his latest flame. Though I smiled the tears inside were-a-burnin', I wished him luck and then he said goodbye. He was gone but still his words kept returning', what else was there for me to do but cry. Would you believe that yesterday this girl was in my arms and swore to me she'd be mine eternally…" (0:50-1:27 of Take 1) - This section is also cut out of the long false start on The Complete Masters box-set and FTD's 'Something For Everybody'.
0:51 - 1:00 = Take 1 LFS (to "and Marie's the name of his latest flame…" Elvis breaks down saying "Just play that much back") (1:27-1:37 of Take 1)
1:00 - 1:12 = Take 3 count-in and false start (0:00-0:12 of Take 3)
1:12 - 1:18 = Talk from before Take 4 (0:03-0:09 of Take 4)
1:18 - 1:21 = Count-in before 4th false start of Take 5 (1:28-1:32 of Take 5)
1:21 - 2:14 = First two false starts of Take 5 (0:12-1:03 of Take 5)
2:14 - 2:23 = Count-in for Take 5 ("M2WW 0860 Take 5" Elvis says "Just don't get it too fast…")(0:02-0:12 of Take 5)
2:23 - 2:41 = Third false start of Take 5 to "sniff" (1:08-1:25 of Take 5)
A cough is edited out here (1:25-1:27 of Take 5)
2:41 - 3:12 = Fourth false start of Take 5 (from "Still rolling…" to end of false start)(1:27-1:58 of Take 5)
3:12 - 3:14 = Count-in for Take 6 ("0860 Take 6")(0:00-0:02 of Take 6)
The whistle and "one… two.." is edited out here (0:02-0:04 of Take 6)
3:14 - 3:26 = Take 6 (to "A very old friend came by tod")(0:04-0:15 of Take 6) - this is a very sloppy splice!
3:26 - 5:23 = Take 12 (from "ay" to end of Take 12)(0:22-2:20 of Take 12)
The
"In & Outakes" section of FTD's Something For Everybody classic album also incorrectly lists
Take 6 as first being released on The EP Collection
Volume 2.
On disc 30 of Sony's Complete Elvis Presley
Masters collection is a studio rehearsal of '(Marie's The Name) His
Latest Flame' which consists of the count-in
for Take 1, the false start, an edit of the long
false start and the tryout of Take 1.
Remixed versions of '(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame' and
'Little Sister' can be found on Return Of
The Rocker.
Another remixed version of '(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame'
can be found on Elvis 30 #1 Hits (E1).
A different remixed version of 'Little Sister'
can be found on the 1980 1st pressing of the German
RCA release Elvis Forever Volume 2.
In March of 2007, Sony decided to go through all of Elvis' masters. They retransferred everything and remastered all tracks including repairing as many clicks, pops, bad edits and dropouts as they could. They have used these newly mastered recordings on their new releases since 2007 including budget soundtracks, 'Legacy' releases, the 30 disc 'Complete Elvis Presley Masters' collection and the Franklin Mint package.
