All songs were recorded in binaural. One channel was used for the musicians and backing vocals (channel 1 - EOX-13, QO-08 etc), and the other channel was used for Elvis' vocals (channel 2 - EVX-13, QV-08 etc). The master was then mixed from the two-track tapes (EOVX-13, QOV-08 etc).
The Thorne Nogar live mono mixes featured on FTD's King Creole classic album are not the actual masters as heard on record. The released masters were remixed from binaural two-track tapes and some have additional reverb added. However, as above with 'Crawfish' when released with dry vocals, some of these live mono mixes were used as the actual masters on the 50s Box (The King Of Rock 'N' Roll - The Complete 50s Masters), Essential Elvis Volume 3 and the 1997 reissue of the King Creole album.
On the old bootleg LP From The Beach To
The Bayou (From 1978) it has an acetate
of track EX Take 13 ('King Creole' record
master) including the announcement, but the guitar
solo in the middle had been edited in from the
main title instrumental (track R).
The main title instrumental was cut short
on From The Beach To The Bayou to
hide the fact that part of it was used for the
previous track on the LP.
The count-in for 'Young Dreams' (track Q
- Take 8) can be also found on From The
Beach To The Bayou where it was sneakily
inserted before Take 7 of 'Lover Doll' (track
H). This deceivingly made it look as though it
was Take 8 of 'Lover Doll' on the LP. This
same bootleg has other fake edits too.
A possibility is that track P (RCA didn't use
track O because of confusion with the number zero)
could have been recorded at an earlier date (January
16), if recorded at all, although it's likely
that it was only reserved for use and then eventually not used.
The acetate containing the '"Main Title" And Opening Scenes' (1AATD-1) contains 'Turtles, Berries, Gumbo' (A-SP), 'Main Title Instrumental' (R-08) and 'Crawfish' (F-07), but not exactly as how they are heard in the movie. 'Turtles, Berries, Gumbo' is the full version of the song including the parts edited out in the movie. 'Crawfish' is also the full version with complete Kitty White vocals (additional vocals as heard in the movie) but all with upfront vocals, where they are lower in the mix in the movie. It also contains the complete ending where it was faded in the movie.
The original unedited acetate of 'Main Title And Opening Scenes' (1AATD-1) (6 minutes and 31seconds) is compiled and edited as follows:
Paramount Seal (0:06)
Turtles, Berries, Gumbo (Track "A" spliced - 2:15), consisting of:
(opening) Turtles, Berries, Gumbo
(Turtles) Turtles, sweet ole turtles, I got turtles for you ladies
Turtles jumping in my pan, to hold them in takes a mighty man
Now don't you settle for the rest, 'cause ma'am i've got the very best.
(Berries) Berries, nice fresh berries, I got berries for you ladies
I've got berries nice and fine, I just took 'em from the vine
Took me 'bout a thousand trips, but none are sweet as your lips.
(Gumbo) Gumbo, yes, it's gumbo, I've got gumbo for you ladies
I've got gumbo steaming hot, and it comes straight from the pot
I cooked and stirred it all the day for you pretty girls to take away.
(ending) Turtles, Berries, Gumbo
Segue into Main Title Instrumental (Track "R" Take 8 - 1:31)
(brass sweetener, overdubbed to R-08)
(string bridge overdubbed from fadeout, to connect to 'Crawfish')
Segue into Crawfish (Track "F" Take 7, High Elvis vocal, High Kitty White vocal & Kitty White "Duet" passages - 2:45)
(Kitty White) Crawfish, crawfish
See I got 'em, see the size, stripped and cleaned before your eyes
Sweet meat, look, fresh and ready to cook.
(Elvis) Crawfish
(Kitty White) Crawfish
(Elvis) Well I went to the bayou just last night
There wasn't no moon but the stars were bright
Put a big long hook on a big long pole
And I pulled Mr Crawfish out-a his hole
Crawfish
(Kitty White) Crawfish
(Elvis & Kitty White) See I got 'em, see the size, stripped and cleaned before your eyes
Sweet meat, look, fresh and ready to cook.
(Elvis) Crawfish
(Kitty White) Crawfish
(Elvis) Now take Mr Crawfish in your hand
He's gonna look good in your fryin' pan
If you fry him crisp or you boil him right
He'll be sweeter than sugar with every bite
Crawfish
(Kitty White) Crawfish
(Elvis & Kitty White) See I got 'em, see the size, stripped and cleaned before your eyes
Sweet meat, look, fresh and ready to cook.

It has been rumoured over the years that the
song 'Bourbon Street' was recorded (maybe
an instrumental) for the movie King Creole,
but this is unfounded. Perhaps this was a demo
submitted for, but not considered good enough
to be used. It has also been rumoured that 'Dirty,
Dirty Feeling' was tried out, but again, nothing
is confirmed.
Two demo's that were submitted for inclusion
in the movie King Creole were 'Hoping You
Were Gone' and 'Stop Me From Loving You'
(see below). A scene was actually written for
the latter song but then rejected. 'Hoping You
Were Gon'e could possibly be the original title
of the song 'Dirty, Dirty Feeling'.
In a letter from Hal Wallis on January 8th 1958,
outlining what songs would be recorded for different
scenes in the movie, it appears there was an additional
song called 'Stop Me' which was planned to
be recorded.
Stop Me
(Charles O'Curran)
You miss me when I'm gone
You really want me near
Stop me if I'm wrong
Stop me from being here
The kiss we held so long
You want your whole life through
Stop me if I'm wrong
Stop me from kissing you
Don't let our lips meet
If yours only mean to deceive
For when our lips meet
This is what I believe
Your love for me is strong
And always will be true
Stop me if I'm wrong
Stop me from loving you
Thanks to Bill Bram for the lyrics to 'Stop
Me'
In March of 2007, Sony decided to go through all of Elvis' masters. They retransferred everything and remastered all tracks including repairing as many clicks, pops, bad edits and dropouts as they could. They have used these newly mastered recordings on their new releases since 2007 including budget soundtracks, Legacy releases, the 30 disc Complete Elvis Presley Masters collection and the Franklin Mint package.
